Obituary of Robert Hourihan
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert "Bob" Joseph Patrick Hourihan, age 77, of Sussex, NB, announces his death which occurred on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Sussex Health Centre. Robert was born in Salt Springs, NB, on August 28, 1939, a son of the late Patrick and Lulu (Cummings) Hourihan.
Robert was retired from the military, having served as an RCD and an 8th Hussars in Cyprus, Lahr, Germany, Gagetown, Sackville and Sussex. Robert loved his work whether it was on the railroad, cutting pulp, being a tanker, an instructor or doing woodworking or carpentry. He loved to work and keep busy.
His family were very important to him and with 96 first cousins many of them became best friends. He enjoyed summers on the Moosehorn where all his cousins would gather. Cassidy Lake became an important part of his life and many good times were spent there be it water skiing, windsurfing , swimming , or mowing lawns. He also would hang out with his two brothers-in-law at Cassidy Lake, perhaps having a smoke once in awhile, although he wouldn’t admit to it. He was a proud member of the Sussex Royal Canadian Legion, Centurion Club and the RCD association.
He is survived by his loving wife Anne Marie (McShane); children: Maureen Hourihan and Stephen Keys of Sussex, NB, Anthony and his wife Kyla of Kingston, NB, and Patrick and his wife Andrea of Norton, NB; grandchildren: Samantha, Kaitlin, Emma and Siobhan; sisters: Aldene Gionet, Julianna Booth, Patricia (Rick) Horton, Zita (Eric) Hourihan-Giffin and Bernice (Art) Wilson; brothers: Richard Hourihan and Sterling (Chris) Hourihan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
