Obituary of Verna Desruisseau
It is with heavy and saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Verna (Teakles) Desruisseau occurring on November 7, 2024 at the Sussex Health Centre with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 18, 1947 in Norton, NB, to Agnes (Given) and Hartley Teakles.
She was a woman of strong faith and that faith carried her through life’s ups and downs but especially these last few years as she fought a courageous battle right to the end.
Her children and especially her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved them fiercely. She could be found cheering on the grandkids at their games of basketball, hockey, baseball, as well as cheer and skating shows. She loved nothing more than to have her family all together preparing them a big meal with homemade pie which she did right up until the end.
She cherished her time with her friends catching up over a cup of tea often at Tim Hortons and having a laugh. She loved to chat and always had a smile. She had the ability to make people feel so welcome and special and prayed for everyone.
She truly loved decorating for all of the seasons, her walks around the block, tending to her beautiful flowers, reading, watching her shows, going for drives with Roland, shopping adventures, and in her younger years time spent at the cottage on the Belleisle Bay.
Verna is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Roland Desruisseau, her daughter Jill Chiasson (Jason) and son Ryan Desruisseau (Lacey); grandchildren Kate Chiasson and Jaxon and Olivia Desruisseau: sisters-in-law Shirley Teakles and Sylvia (Allyn) Bell; brothers-in-law Henri Clement, Doug Desruisseau (Nancy), Cory Desruisseau (Cynthia), Rick Desruisseau (Bev), and Jack Desruisseau (Diana); many nieces and nephews especially nieces Tammy and Nicole who were like daughters to her; her aunts Beatrice McGinnis and Eunice O’Donnell and many cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Darlene Clement and Bernadine Teakles and brother Junior Teakles.
The family would like to sincerely thank the first responders - Norton Fire Department and the Paramedics, staff of the Sussex Health Centre especially in the IV Day Clinic, ER and East Wing as well as Dr. Green, Dr. Allaby, and Dr. Gray all for their care and compassion throughout the last few years and in her final days.
