Obituary of Patricia Ann Watts

It is with the deepest sadness we announce the death of our Mother, Patricia Ann Watts (Leggett) which occurred on November 2, 2023 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB.

Born in Saint John to G. Maynard and Marjorie (Giggey) Leggett on July 8, 1931, the oldest of 3 children. Mom grew up in Millidgeville and spoke often about her wonderful childhood. She married our Dad in June 1952 and in 1959 they built a cottage on the Beautiful Belleisle Bay and enjoyed many fun years raising their family. Oh the memories they made. Mom had a zest for life, a ‘nothing will keep me down’ attitude. She was an inspiration to many. She loved music and bridge. She even wrote a few songs over the years including The Belleisle Bay Song. It was a regular occurrence in the summer sitting around the bonfire having a sing song with Mom leading and playing the ukulele.  She had many duplicate bridge friends and loved that game. She played bridge from the comfort of her home, right to the end. Mom worked outside the home through the years at NBTel, K-Mart and the Harbour Bridge. She also ran a roadside stand called Pat’s Place where she sold Ice cream, candy and some local produce.

Mom is survived by her three children: David (Helen) Woodbridge ON, Judy (Gil Meredith) Riverview NB and Joanne (Ervan Cronk) Belleisle Bay NB; sister in law Harriet Leggett St Andrews NB; and brother Peter (Carol) Leggett Nashville TN. She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren:  Christopher (Shellah), Christina (Rob), Susan, Peter (Mary), Kathryn, Joe (Jill), and Heather (Oliver); eight great grandchildren: Sophia, Rita, Maggie, John, Lucy, Charlotte, Jackson, and Rose; as well as nieces nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Pat is predeceased by her husband William Watts and her brother James Leggett.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 1 to 3PM at Pat’s home (or as she called it, “my little palace”). A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Thank you to the wonderful care for Mom throughout several years, from her caregiver and Extra Mural as well as the staff of 3BN at the Saint John Regional Hospital in her final hours. Donations in memory of Mom may be made to the Extra Mural – Sussex, Bobby’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
