Obituary of Ellie Hatfield

It is with great sadness that the family of Ellen “Ellie” Robina Hatfield announce her passing which occurred on October 15, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Hatfield Point, NB, on July 16, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Grace (White) Reicker.

Ellie was married to her loving husband, Will, for 65 years. They were together for 70 years, having no other sweetheart but each other. At the top of her list of passions was her family, first with her children, and in later years, her grandchildren and great grands, who kept her life busy, full of joy, and always lots of love to go around.

In earlier years, Ellie enjoyed working occasionally at the Hatfield Point Post Office. She always kept busy with her children’s active school lives and sports events, namely hockey. In later years, she transferred her enjoyment of the “good old hockey game” to the grandchildren and great grands.

Ellie was very active in the community, always attending every event, volunteering when possible, and always with a cheerful heart and a helping hand.

For over 65 years, she attended Outreach Pentecostal Church where she loved to be involved in the ladies’ group, attend services, and serve the God she knew and loved, knowing one sweet day, she would walk on gold. “In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.”

This quote was on her fridge: “If criticism is mistaken or mean-spirited, rise above it. Maintain the high ground when you’re under fire. No victory is worth winning at the expense of picking up mud that has been slung at you and throwing it back.” – Reuben Shelly

Ellie lived this as her life motto and would never intentionally hurt anyone. She loved everyone and lived for God to the very best of her ability. She was the best of the best, the sweetest of the sweet, and she will be greatly missed.

Ellie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years William “Willie” Hatfield; her children: Mark & Kathy Hatfield of Hatfield Point, NB, Ronald Hatfield of Sussex, NB and Patti & Charles Kennedy of Hatfield Point, NB; grandchildren: Laura Hatfield, Stuart (Kelly) Hatfield, Carla (Roger) Belding, Krista Hatfield, Simon Kennedy and Hilary Kennedy (Luca Rogers); brother Doug & Faye Reicker of Hatfield Point, NB; sisters: Alberta Clowes of Hatfield Point, NB and Patricia Gillishammer of Winnipeg MB; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. Visitation will be held from Outreach Pentecostal Church, 2129 Route 124, Hatfield Point on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM.  Funeral service will be on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 1:00PM, also from the church. Private family interment will take place at Bayview Cemetery.
