Obituary of Heather May Mercer

It is with great sadness that the family of Heather May Mercer announce her passing, which occurred on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Sussex, NB, on May 3, 1958, she was a daughter of the late Levi and Dorothy (Goddard) Wilson.

Heather was a loving wife and mother. She spent her days having tea with close family and friends catching up on the daily events. In the evenings or on a rainy day Heather and Nelson would spend time watching one of several movies that Heather purchased from Walmart, she loved her movies. You could always find Heather sitting at the dining room table waiting to greet the next person who came along hoping to have a game of crib or to share a few laughs. She was eager for spring and summer months to arrive so her and Nelson could go on drives to find the next great deal at the many yard sales along the way. Heather will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and will be sadly missed.

Heather is survived by her husband Nelson Mercer; daughter Dawn Wilson of Sussex, NB; step-daughters: Janie (Scott) Dysart of Sussex Corner, NB, Marcia Bunnell (Richard Vail) of Apohaqui, NB;  step-sons: Randal (Lisa) Mercer of Drury’s Cove, NB, Charles (Tammy) Mercer of Mount Hebron, NB; sisters: Dorothy “Ann” McShane of Saint John, NB, Sharon Spicer of Sussex, NB; brothers: Kevin (Yolande) Wilson of Moncton, NB, Stephen Wilson of Sussex, NB; several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Heather was predeceased by her sister Karen Gallant and brother-in-law Dave McShane.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 3 to 7PM. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 11:00AM from Sherwood’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Riverbank Cemetery. Reception to follow at Nelson Mercer’s residence, 154 Route 865, Norton, please stop in and share a fond memory and have some refreshments.
