Obituary of Edna Morrell

An irreplaceable piece of our family’s heart is gone. Edna Marie Morrell, age 88 of Hatfield Point, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre on January 31 2023. She was born on October 4, 1934, in Ridgetown, Ontario to Wilbert and Dorothy (Churchill) Fraser.

Edna was born in Ontario but spent most of her life in Hatfield Point moving here after her marriage at the age of 16. She was the 8th child of 10 children, being one of only 2 daughters. She became an integral part of the community and the Hatfield Point Baptist Church. She loved her home where she lived for 70 years overlooking the Belleisle Bay. She loved to quilt, knit, and crochet. She had bounds of energy and never slowed down, taking pride in her home, family, and her beloved 6 grandchildren. She enjoyed going with her friends to the church suppers, community socials, and any other events they could find to attend.

On Sunday mornings you would always find her in the back pew of the Hatfield Point Baptist Church where over the years she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was the janitor. Her last few months were difficult, but she remained steadfast in her faith. She will be greatly missed and the hole she leaves never to be filled.

Edna is survived by her sons Richard Morrell of Kiersteadville and Daniel Morrell (Dana) of Hatfield Point; daughter Shelley Vanderlaan (Paul) of Hanwell; her treasured grandchildren Eden Vanderlaan (Brennan Grover), Mitchell Vanderlaan (Danielle Clark), Alexander Vanderlaan, Katherine Cormier (Zac Arsenault), Jacob Morrell, Vincent Cormier; daughter-in-law Pearl. She was predeceased by her brothers William, Roy, Alvie, Jim, Ernie, Clarence, Doug, and Thomas, and sister Phyllis Charron.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 11:00am from Hatfield Point Baptist Church. Interment will take place in the spring at Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield Point, NB.
