Obituary of Ruth Ann Ganong
It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Ann Ganong announce her passing, which occurred on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Sussex Health Centre, Sussex, NB. Born in Springfield, NB, on June 4, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Royden and Bessie (McEwen) Bates.
Music was a joy and passion of Ruth's life, working as a music teacher in school, teaching dozens of piano students, and serving as choir director, organist and pianist at churches throughout her life. Serving in Women's Institute, Women's Missionary Society, and Eastern Star were important callings for her. As like her father, she was an avid reader till the end.
Ruth is survived by her children: Jamie Ganong (Beth) of Norton, NB, Dwight Ganong (Lorna) of Fredericton, NB and Bev Hennessy of Kingston, ON; grandchildren: Samuel Ganong (Josie Lockhart), Jessica McFarlane (Scott), Adam Ganong (Jenna Knorr), Daniel Ganong (Meghan), Corey Ganong, Craig Ganong, Maureen Hennessy, Kathleen Hennessy and Clare Hennessy; great grandchildren: Esther, Everett, Willow, Luca, Ida, Isla, Eli and Ezra; special daughter Noriko and her family of Japan; brother George Bates (Ilyne Zacharias) of Calgary, AB; sisters: Marilyn Mitton of Georgetown, ON and Kathy Markey (Carl Williams) of Quispamsis, NB; sister-in-law Bonnie Ganong; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband Millard Ganong; and brother Douglas Bates.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 4 - 7PM from Sherwood’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM from Kiersteadville United Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Kiersteadville Cemetery, Kiersteadville, NB.
