Obituary of Barbara Anne Hourihan
It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Anne Hourihan announces her passing which occurred on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Sussex Health Centre. Born in Salt Springs, NB, on May 31, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Margaret (Leblanc) Richard.
Barb is survived by her loving husband, Joe Hourihan; her children: Donna (Jamie) Gilchrist of Norton, NB, Cathy (Ken) Mahoney of Erb Settlement, NB, Anthony (Christine) Hourihan of Passekeag, NB, Darren (Tammy) Hourihan of Drury’s Cove, NB, Darlene Hourihan of Saint John, NB, Tanya (Nick) O’Donnell of Lower Millstream, NB, and Krista (Mark) Harper of Stephenville, NL; her grandchildren: Connor, Madison, Emma, Braeden, Adam, Kyle, Abby, Declan, Parker, Ayden, and Carson; and her sister, Myreene (Chris) Tobin of Calgary, AB. Barb is also survived by her special friend, Phyllis; her card playing buddies, Catherine and Eleanor; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barb loved her husband, Joe, and her family dearly. She loved playing cards with her friends and going to the local yard sales. She was famous for her baking, especially apple pies, cookies, and Christmas fruitcakes. Her children will always remember mum’s homemade pizza parties that were a special treat for special occasions. She was always ready to cut, or perm, the hair of her friends and family in the Bloomfield area, and was a babysitter for many of the neighborhood children.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her siblings: Eleanor Richard, Rita Elderkin, Mary Dempster, Ralph Richard, twins Marguerite Guimond and Florine Surette; and half-brother, Joe Richard.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB where visitation, following strict COVID-19 protocols, will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm. A private service and interment will be held at a later date.
