Obituary of George Johnston

It is with sadness the family of George William Alexander Johnston, age 94, announce his death, on February 24, 2015, at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. He is the husband of Annie (Forgrave) Johnston of Norton, NB. George was born on January 16, 1921, in Miramichi, NB, the son of the late Freeman and Evelyn (Curtis) Johnston. George served in the Military during World War II. He married Kathleen Williams in 1946 and they had 5 children losing the eldest in infancy, they resided in the Miramichi until separating in the mid 1950's at which time he moved with his children to Norton. He worked various jobs including driving pulp truck, house construction and carpentry. He met Annie Forgraves and after a long courtship they married in 1973. He loved to fish and hunt especially at the camp with Doug Forgraves. Also enjoying many days on the golf course with Ken Ross. After a serious automobile accident in 1999 George no longer participated as much in these activities, but he never lost his desire to have visits from family and friends. Up until entering a nursing home 6 months ago, he spent his days living happily with Annie in their home in Norton ." He is survived by his wife Annie; sons George and Gloria of Ontario, Gary of Saskatchewan, and Jack and Bev of Hampton; daughter Sharon and Cliff Jensen of British Columbia; grandchildren Randy, Jeannie, Cameron, Scott, Brandy, Amanda, Sandie, Kelly, Melanie, Robert, William, Jason and Theresa; great grandchildren Christine, Alysha, Samantha, Krisha, Justin, Brandon, Michael, Emilie, Kallie, Cooper, Hailey, Justin, Jade and Joshua; great-great grandchildren Coltin and Benjamin; special niece Irene. He was predeceased by his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Joanne. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (839-2156), Norton, NB with visitation on Friday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Karen MacNeill, will be held from Sherwood’s Chapel at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 28, 2015. Interment will take place in Riverbank Cemetery in the spring. Donations in memory of George may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
