Obituary of Mary-Anne Burns

The death of Mary-Anne Davis Burns, age 75, of Hatfield Point occurred on January 10, 2015, at Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton, NB. She was born on May 27, 1939, in Saint John, NB, the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Davis) Burns. Mary-Anne was a strong, affectionate, and loving mother who raised three proud children on her own. She was a magical baker, a great story teller, an avid reader, a beautiful crafter and sewer. She loved music, movies, and loved to gossip with her friends. She was witty and funny and could make you laugh just by laughing herself. After a number of years married in Manitoba, Mary-Anne returned to New Brunswick and raised her family back "in the Point". Those years are remembered fondly by many, and referred to as "the golden years". It was the peak of a community surrounding the grocery store which her father owned for nearly 50 years. Late night card games, swims, community celebrations and parades. Those are the years she remembered best until the very end. The last years of her life were a battle with dementia but she was strong and her spirit held on. When she passed, she was surrounded by her three children whom she loved dearly. Mary-Anne is survived by her sons Jason and Rachel Burns of Toronto, ON and Jeff Burns and Karalee Rogoski of Edmonton, AB; daughter Jennifer and Cyril Deschambeault of Riverview; grandchildren Gage and Ashton Deschambeault and Theodora Burns; brother Jim and Barb Burns, of Rothesay, Bill and AnnJoy Burns, of Brown’s Flat, and Rick and Laurie Burns of Scottsburn, NS; sister Barbara and Jamie Gardner, of London, ON; several nieces, nephews, cousins and new and old friends. She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, with visitation on Wednesday from 3-5 and 6-8 PM. Funeral service will be held from Sherwood’s Chapel at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Interment will take place in Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield Point, NB, at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family may be made through www.SherwoodsFuneralHome.com
