Obituary of Bill Stanley
It is with a deep sense of loss that William Edgar (Bill) Stanley’s family announces his passing on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. The son of the late Gordon and Doris (Edgar) Stanley, Bill was born in Saint John, NB on August 23, 1950. Bill will be sadly missed by his son Rob and daughter-in-law, Angie and their four children: Kieran, Rory, Cait, and Maeve, of Milton, ON; his brother, Jim and his wife Barb; his sisters, Carol Thorne and her husband, Ray, and Chris Nelson and her husband Gary; as well as several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews
During his lifetime, Bill had a number of successful careers, including management positions in various branches of the CIBC. After he left the banking business, he ventured into the field of insurance brokering and investment counselling, which turned out to be his real passion; and for the past 21 years he has been the co-owner of Security Holdings Ltd., a financial planning center in Hampton, NB.
Bill experienced deep tragedy twice in his life: first, with the loss of his oldest son, Billy, in a tragic car accident on October 22, 1988, at the young age of 17; and then, with the early death of his beloved wife, Debby, who succumbed to cancer on April 14, 2001, just a few short months after being diagnosed with that terrible disease.
Bill was fun-loving, and enjoyed nothing so much as playing a trick on someone or telling them the latest joke he had heard (or had made up!), but he was also a very loving, caring and generous person, who will be greatly missed by family, friends, business associates, and clients alike.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre, 18 Scovil Rd., Norton, NB on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 3-5 and 6-8 pm. At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral service. There will be a private graveside committal service at a later date.
Special thanks to the nurses in the dialysis unit at the Sussex Health Centre for their wonderful care of Bill during the past nine years, and to those who drove him to and from dialysis, and to all his other medical appointments, for all those years, especially his brother Jim; his business associate, Lowell Jones; and his friend and cousin, Ina Frazee.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bill Stanley Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund and/or to the dialysis unit at Sussex Health Centre. Personal condolences to the family may be made through www.sherwoodsfuneralhome.com.
