Obituary of Jim McFarland

At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, on Sunday, October 19, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, James Elmer McFarland, of MacDonald’s Corner, NB, went to be at rest in his Heavenly home. Jim was born in Sussex, NB, on September 14, 1949, the only son of Clarence and Madeline (Carr) McFarland. Jim attended school in Sussex, graduating from Sussex Regional High School in 1969. Shortly thereafter he entered Maritime Forest Rangers School in Fredericton, graduating in December of 1971. Following graduation, he began work with the Department of Natural Resources as a Forest Ranger and District Ranger until his retirement in October of 2009. In January of 1972, Jim married Sandra, his loving wife of 42 years. After his transfer to the Department of Natural Resources in Coles Island, they established Loon Point Herefords, a purebred Hereford farm on the Washademoak Lake. Their lives were filled with cattle shows and sales, raising orphaned deer and love of the country life. Jim’s love of athletics was shown through his three children as they participated in sports of various kinds, hockey being his particular favourite. Besides his four beautiful grandchildren, one of his greatest joys was feeding the fish in his pond and watching them jump for their dinner. James is survived by his wife Sandra and their three children Jamie and Fawn of Ottawa, Jennifer and Guillaume of Calgary, AB, and Luke of MacDonald’s Corner; grandchildren Gavin, Kainen, Darien and Lucie; parents Clarence and Madeline McFarland of Sussex; sisters Carlene and Ron Patterson of Amherst, Barb and Marshall Fanjoy of Waterford, Cathy Cameron of Saint John and Ann and Levi McLean of Sussex; brother-in-law Bev and Rosemary Finnamore Chown; sister-in-law Nancy McConnachie; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Dot and Sandy McConnachie; sisters-in-law Marg Chown, Sheila and Heather McConnachie; brother-in-law Tim Cameron. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Aubrey Trail, will be held from First Cambridge Baptist Church at 11:00 am, on Friday, October 24, 2014. Interment will take place in adjoining cemetery. Donations to the First Cambridge Baptist Church, the Canadian Diabetic Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
