Obituary of Eugene Cummings

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Eugene Edward Cummings of Norton, NB, husband of Evelyn (Fenton) Cummings, which occurred on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at the Sussex Health Centre, at age 85. Born on March 28, 1929, he was a son of the late Vincent and Rose (Curran) Cummings. Eugene began his working career at the age of 18 at CN Railway. He continued there for the next 42 years until he retired in 1989. His job took him to various places in N.B. His many colleagues became his very close friends. He met and married Evelyn in Oct 1955. They spent their entire married life of 59 years residing at their Norton home. Eugene enjoyed countless days fishing the Kennebecasis, playing cards and gardening. Eugene will fondly be remembered for his quiet sense of humour and the love for his family and friends. Eugene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; son Gary Cummings (Heidi) of Sussex, NB; daughter Rose Cummings of Sussex Corner, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. Eugene was predeceased by his brothers Fred, Patrick, Ronald, Harold, Donald; sisters Marguerite Cummings and Clara Monahan. He is resting at Sherwood's Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506) 839-2156, 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held from Sacred Heart Church, Norton at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 6, 2014. Interment will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
