Obituary of Harry Urquhart
The death of Harry Kenneth Urquhart, age 90, husband of the late Marion (Willigar) Urquhart, of Norton and formerly of Kars, NB, occurred at the Sussex Health Centre on Sunday, December 22, 2013. He was born in Kars, the son of the late Martin and Lenora (VanWart) Urquhart.
Harry was born on February 21, 1923 on a successful farm in Kars and was accustomed to plenty of work and companionship. He married in June 25, 1941 and enlisted in the Canadian Army in July! A still-born daughter and the hardship of war marked the first four years of their marriage, Hunting, farming, and woods work interspersed his regular occupations and his family could always depend on his generous provision for them.
Harry loved to travel and visit with family and friends – usually unexpected by them! A dry wit along with few words marked his social interaction. He was generous and willing to help out when needs arose. He loved celebrations and feasts. Harry treated his cars and machinery with great care. He loved his family and was very loyal even when he didn’t agree with things. Awana leader, deacon, hauler of kids to Sunday School and giver to many charities, especially missions and the church were defining roles.
Harry was justly proud of his years with the R.C.E.M.E. for the Canadian Army during World War II, and justly proud of the dependable labours he provided as an employee of the "Department of Public Works". Harry was a great man, employer, father and neighbour. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and knew he was ready for Heaven. He will be greatly missed.
Harry is survived by sons Ken and Sandra of Three Hills, AB and Steve and Becky of Upper Brighton, NB; daughter Joyce and David Perrin of Mazerolle Settlement, NB; grandchildren Burton Urquhart, Donelda(Benton) Schultz, Sharol Urquhart, Scott Urquhart, Melanie Perrin and Bradley Perrin; great grandchildren Judah, Kallie, and Hope Schultz, Delaney and Marcus Urquhart and Summer Blake; sisters Hazel Mott of Sussex and Christina Craft of Norton; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by an infant daughter; brothers Earle, Deverne and Alvin; sisters Bertha, Ruby and Rowena.
He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre, (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, with visiting on Friday, December 27, 2013, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Hatfield Point Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 28, 2013. Interment will take place in the spring in the Orange Cemetery, Kars, NB.
