Obituary of Garnet Totton

Garnet Winsor Totton, age 82, husband of the late Rosalie (Cashol) of Midland, NB, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following failing health, on Sunday, May 5, 2013. He was born in Mercer Settlement on January 7, 1931, the son of the late George Washington and Pearl (McBride) Totton. Garnet dedicated his life to the love of farming and family. His younger years revolved around playing hockey, teaming horses, catching wild cows, with his dogs, and entertaining with ever changing stories. He could be seen regularly at the Sussex Livestock Sale telling stories, selling animals and buying junk. But nothing was junk to Garnet, everything had a value. He was the go-to person for parts and pieces for anyone in need. Variety was the spice of life, especially when it came to birds. He was a diehard Leafs fan. Some of his favorite sayings were "You can never have too many dogs". "When you are right you are right, but when you are wrong, don’t admit it" He is survived by his children Louise and Paul MacDonald, Roy and Anita Totton, Treva Ricketson, Peter and Kim Totton, Veronica Totton-Graham and James Graham, Lisa Totton and Rick Felske, Patrick Totton and Tracy Geddes, Helen and Mark Donovan, and Michael and Faye Totton; 19 grandchildren Rosalie, Lucas, Jarrett & Harmony, Jordon, Jacob, Riley, Terri, Ryan, James & Ashley, Clint, Kristie, Timothy, Jeffrey, Shayne, Joseph, Jesse, Mattie, Shawnee and Alana; brother Oakley Totton; sisters Leota and Ted Isbill and Velma DeLong; sisters-in-law Linda Totton, Theresa King, Judy Cashol and Florence Totton; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Willis, George, Basil, Gerald and Verne; sister Velzora. Visiting will take place at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm.
