Obituary of Anna McCrea

With heavy hearts, the family of Anna McCrea announce her death, at the Sussex Health Centre on Monday, December 17, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Jim McCrea of Shannon, NB. Anna was born in Midland, NB, on October 16, 1946, the daughter of the late Otty and Jean (Urquhart) Frazee. Anna was raised on a farm in a large close-knit family. She continued her farm life with her husband Jim in Shannon, where they raised a family of their own and worked very hard on the farm. Even though the days were long and times were sometimes hard, Anna always took time to spoil Jim. Anna entertained many people in her kitchen over the years between farm vacation guests, hunting guests, friends and extended family. All who visited were made to feel very welcomed. Anna was involved in keeping family close by organizing family reunions for both the Frazees and the McCreas. She was a generous host and took family gatherings very seriously, making sure everyone was well fed and entertained. Anna knew the family history and enjoyed passing it on to others. Anna adored her four grandchildren, travelling across the country to visit Chandler and James when they were young and living on the west coast. Brandon and Meagan living close got to visit often. Anna took an interest in everything they did and attended basketball, football and volleyball games as well as school concerts and plays. She loved to play games with her grandchildren and others. Crokinole was a big part of our winter entertainment. Anna loved to read and broadened her horizons through her reading. Reading was especially comforting to Anna over the past year during her illness, when she could easily breeze through a book a day. Anna liked a challenge and taught herself a great deal of accounting skills working as the farm bookkeeper. She also performed the duties of secretary treasurer of the Shannon Cemetery for over 40 years. She worked two census, supervising 50 people. More recently she ran the local returning office for the provincial election with a great group of people who subsequently became very close friends. Anna has always been a dedicated Boston Bruins hockey fan. She travelled to Boston and Toronto to see games. Everyone who knew Anna appreciated her warmth and sincerity. She will be very deeply missed in the community and beyond. She is survived by her husband Jim; daughters Karen and Dale Kozak of Fredericton and Nancy and Bruce Colpitts of Crafts Cove; son Peter McCrea and Jill Byford of Shannon; grandchildren Brandon, Meagan, Chandler and James; brother Everett and Joanne Frazee of Midland; sisters Ruth and Bill Sherwood of Norton, Maddy and Winston McIntyre of St. Martins, Ina Frazee of Kiersteadville and Helen and Walter Branscombe of Long Point; aunt Bert and Bob Neal of Saint John; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers Robert and Ernest and sister Shirley Crawford. She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. A Celebration Service of Anna’s life, conducted by Jock Otis, will be held from Shannon Baptist Church at 11:00 am., on Saturday, December 22, 2012. A private family interment will take place in Shannon Cemetery. Donations to the Extra Mural Fund or the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
