Obituary of Allan Atherton

The death of Allan Harold Atherton, age 83, husband of the late Lois Constance (Bissett) Atherton of Kars, NB, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Thursday, December 6, 2012. He was born on November 17, 1929, the son of the late Harold and Annie Pearl (Keirstead) Atherton. Allan was Past Master Carleton Union Lodge. Most of his working career was spent in the family printing business, "Atherton Printing Ltd." and "Atherton Business Machines Ltd." Allan is survived by daughter Avis and George Kellow of Saint John; sons Clark and Christine Atherton of Kars and Bill and Frances Atherton of Kars; son-in-law Layton Henderson of Henderson Settlement; grandchildren Andrew and Peter Henderson, Geordie Kellow, Danielle (King), Stephen and Bethany (Folkins) Atherton, Amanda, Trudy (Hall), Gillian and Lindsay Atherton; great grandchildren Drew, David, Charlotte, Allen and Jessie Henderson, Gabrielle and Xander King and Ethan Campbell; brother Frank and his wife Anne Atherton of Saint John; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter Diane Henderson and brother William. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visitation on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service, conducted by Rev. Preston Mowry, will be held at the Hatfield Point Baptist Church on Monday, December 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment in Bethel Baptist Cemetery, Kars, NB. Donations to Community Chaplain Service, Saint John Regional Palliative Care Unit, or the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
