Obituary of Les McKnight

Leslie George McKnight, loving husband of Mary (Hutchings) McKnight of Hatfield Point, N.B. passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, November 22, 2012. Les is survived by his son Rick , wife Krista and their children Natasha & Chantal of Kars, N.B. and son Randy, his wife Roxanne and their children, Ryan, Ramsey & Rhea of Norton, N.B. Leslie was predeceased by his daughter Catherine Elizabeth in 1994. Born on January 14, 1940 at his family’s homestead in the Grant, N.B, he was the son of the late George Arthur McKnight and Jean Robertson (Scribner) McKnight. Les retired from the Department of Education where he worked as a teacher for over 22 years and served as a school custodian. He was also employed as a Correctional Officer & worked for 15 years with Canada Post as a Rural Mail Carrier. In his earlier years, Les served as a cadet leader with the Sussex and McDonald Consolidated School Cadet program working with the Militia and achieved the rank of Major with the 8th Hussars in Sussex, N.B. Les travelled with the cadets taking his family with him to places such as Newfoundland, Camp Aldershot Nova Scotia Camp Argonaut Base Gagetown & Val Cartier, Quebec. Les enjoyed travelling, camping trips and spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. Les was an avid car and tractor enthusiast, was very well organized, had a passion for taking pictures and found great pleasure in scrap booking. Les loved to read his Bible, local newspapers, such as the Telegraph Journal, Kings County Record, Hampton Herald, Wheels, the Auto Trader as well as books on politics & political figures. Les enjoyed his garden, taking ferry rides and playing practical jokes, especially on his grandchildren every Apri1 1st. Les knew his Lord as his personal Saviour and was a member of the Outreach Pentecostal Church in Hatfield Point. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Saturday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Les's life, conducted by Rev. Fred Wickett and Charles Kennedy, will be held from Outreach Pentecostal Church at 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2012. Interment will follow at Bayview Cemetery. Donations in memory of Les, can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family may be made through www.sherwoodsfuneralhome.com
