Obituary of Doris Northrup

The death of Doris Sybil Northrup, age 87, wife of the late Frederick Northrup, of Belleisle Creek, NB, occurred at the Belleisle Creek Manor, Belleisle Creek, NB, on Friday, August 3, 2012. She was born in Saint John, NB, on February 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Fred and Nina (Donald) Joynes. Doris grew up in Belleisle Creek with brothers John and Howard and sisters Edith and Margaret. She was not afraid of hard work, being brought up on a farm and having to help with the chores. After completion of high school she wanted to become a teacher and she received her teacher training in Fredericton at the Normal School. She married Fred Northup on August 9, 1952 and they settled in Joliff’s Brook. She began teaching in one room school houses. She taught at McAllister, Parleeville and Hatfield Point, then after 35 years, she finished her teaching at the new Belleisle Elementary School. She had a Good News Club once a week at the school. She loved to cook, knit and do crafts. She had a strong and abiding faith in God and trusted Him as her Savior and it was evident in the way she lived her life. She led by example. She was actively involved in the church and had a heart for Missions. She loved to teach Sunday School and was always helping with the youth and was a faithful leader in Awana. She earned the Citation Award through the Awana program for scripture memorization. Doris is survived by her brother; Howard Joynes and his wife Mary of Belleisle Creek, NB; nieces Ruth Boone, June Tremain, Cheryl Huntley, and Carol Beckett; nephews Bill Pearson, Bill and Reg Tremain, Larry and David Joynes; several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters; Edith Tremain, Margaret Northrup; brother John and niece Betty Joynes. She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Monday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Preston Mowry, will be held from Hatfield Point Baptist Church, at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Interment will take place in Upper Springfield Cemetery, Belleisle Creek, NB. Donations in memory of Doris, may be made to the Upper Springfield Cemetery, Gideon Bibles or to the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
