Obituary of Lawrence Barnes
The death of Lawrence Renfrew Barnes, age 88, husband of Lilly (Mott) Barnes of McDonald's Point, NB, occurred at the Bayview Special Care Home, Kars, NB, on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. He was born on September 17, 1923, the son of the late David and Nellie (Lewis) Barnes.
Lawrence will be remembered for his love of the Washademoak Lake, where he skated, swam, cross country skied and boated until well into his eighties. He was an avid sports fan, attending many hockey and baseball games. In his youth he played hockey and softball. His team was the Wickham Ramblers. He worked for the D.O.T. in the early fifties and also for A.B. McDonald & Son as well as woods work, always sawing and splitting his own wood until he was 80.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Lilly of 62 Years; son Randy (Betty) Barnes of McDonald’s Point; grandchildren Kimberly (Jason) Withrow of Bedford, NS, Wade (Karen) Vroom of Toronto, ON, Marcy Loeman of Midland, and Miranda Barnes of Miramichi; great grandchildren Erika and Tyler Withrow of Bedford, NS and Zack Loeman of Midland; son-in-law Brian Vroom of Fredericton; special cousin Evlyn Fulton; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Elaine (Barnes) Vroom; brothers Bill, Walter, Harold, Lewis and Lloyd.
Resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Sunday, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Todd Cameron, will be held from Sherwood’s Chapel, at 11:00 am, on Monday, August 6, 2012. Interment will take place in McDonald’s Point Cemetery, McDonald’s Point, NB.
