Obituary of Fred Howland

Frederick Thomas Dow Howland of Lower Kars, passed away peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John on March 18th, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born at Saint John on May 17, 1944 and lived his early years in South Bay before moving to Lower Kars in 1977.He was the son of the late Fred and Jeannie (Baird) Howland of South Bay. Fred worked for the Ford Motor Company in Saint John. He was the owner and operator of Howland Marine & Supply Ltd. in South Bay. Fred was a successful salesman for National Chemsearch. As an entrepreneur Fred founded Easy-Kleen Systems Ltd. in Sussex, Belleisle Wild Blueberry Farms Ltd. in Stewarton, and co-founded Eastern Environmental Services in Sussex among many other enterprises. Fred was involved in the project committees responsible for the Springfield Fire Dept., Belleisle Pool and Belleisle Bay Fun Days. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed God’s natural wilderness. He was a passionate and successful float plane pilot and antique automobile enthusiast. Fred enjoyed his many float plane trips to Northern Quebec and Labrador. Fred attended Kings Way Assembly in Quispamsis. He was a man of great determination and perseverance, with many "life experiences". Most of all Fred enjoyed the presence of his family and friends of all walks of life. He was very proud of his children and ten grandchildren. Fred is survived by his wife Donna of 48 years; his children, Brad Howland (Debbie) of Lower Kars, Laura Goodine (Seth) of Perth-Andover, Christa Priest (Nathan) of Prince William and Stephen Howland (Annette) of Halifax; grandchildren Madison, Ben, and Paige Howland, Christan and Andrew Goodine, Makala, Michael and McKenzie Priest, Christopher and Brett Howland; sisters Marguerite Keating (Andrew), and Ardie Mae English (William) of South Bay; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred was predeceased by his niece Dale MacPhail. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held from Outreach Pentecostal Church, 2129 Route 124, Hatfield Point at 2:00 pm. on Friday, March 23, 2012.
