Obituary of Alvin Craft

The death of Alvin Blake Craft, age 79, husband of Phyllis (Welton) Craft, of Craft’s Cove, NB, occurred at the Sussex Health Centre, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. He was born on March 16, 1932, the son of the late Herbert and Florence (MacDonald) Craft. Alvin Craft lived at Craft’s Cove all his life. He loved the country and farming, he was known far and wide for his wonderful tomatoes and strawberries. He also drove a school bus and a truck for the government. He had a great love for fishing. Many years ago he started a fish hatchery as a hobby. The hobby turned into a business. He bred his own brood stock, milked his own fish and grew them in the incubator. At 3 inches he delivered them all over N.B., stocking fish ponds. The time of year he enjoyed the most was hunting season. In later years, at 3:00 P.M everyday, he went to his crow’s nest with his lobster sandwiches, camera and gun. His enjoyment was watching deer and taking pictures. He was a wonderful family man and had many many friends. He had a wonderful personality and a joke for everybody. He was one in a million and will be greatly missed. Alvin is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughter Cathy McCrea of Craft’s Cove; son Brad and Nancy Craft of Salt Springs; grandchildren Laurie McCrea and Bart Nason of Oakville, ON, Graham McCrea of Bonnyville, AB, David McCrea of Shannon, Danielle Craft and Ben of Norton, Justin and Nicole Craft of Salt Springs; great grandchildren Shyanne, Makenzie, Taylor and Cohan; sister Madeline and Norman Bevans of Shannon; brother Donnie and Dawn Craft of Belyea’s Cove; sisters-in-law Geraldine Wiggins of Lincoln, Margaret Hay of Chipman, Betty and James Nowlan of Burlington, ON; brothers-in-law Reg and Calvin Welton of Waterboro; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Miles. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Saturday, from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Alvin’s life, conducted by Jock Otis, will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m.. from Sherwood’s Chapel. Following cremation, interment will take place at a later date. Donations to a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
