He worked at the Rothesay Pulp and Paper Mill for many years. Then he bought a truck and worked for himself for awhile. Doug loved the water and had 3 or 4 boats which he enjoyed. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He is survived by his best friend and wife Shirley Schofield; daughter Charlene (Andrew) Ferguson of Lorneville; brother Donald of St. Andrews; sisters Annabelle (Brian) Cook of Letang, and Lottie (Elmer) Cook of Pennfield; special friend Beverley (Gerald) Roy of Nauwigewauk; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ina and Joseph VanTassel and brother John. At Doug’s request there will be no service. A memorial will be held in the spring. Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, are entrusted with arrangements.
