Obituary of Frank Pickle
The death of Frank Hughson Pickle, age 91, husband of Betty (Evans) Pickle of Springfield, NB, occurred at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre, on Saturday, October 1, 2011. He was born on September 24, 1920, in Springfield, NB, the son of the late John and Gertrude (Sandford) Pickle. Frank served in World War II for four years in the army as a Signalman. Following the war he worked for NB Power for 39 years.
Frank was a handsome child with blue eyes and blond curls. Those good looks and his gentlemanly ways worked to his advantage when wooing the two loves of his life. Frank’s first wife was Dorothy (Watson) Pickle. And they enjoyed 41 years together before she passed away in 1991. They had one son Donald. Frank then met and married Betty (Akerley) Evans and they enjoyed 20 years of marriage.
Frank grew up in Springfield and attended Springfield School until he had to leave to work on the family farm. He was not to remain a country gentleman though, as his adventurous spirit led him to work with NB Power Commission. But, once again his ambitious nature was interrupted by World War II. Frank was attached with the South Alberta Regiment and served as a Signalman.
Home from the war, Frank resumed his 39 year career with the Power Commission. He worked hard to learn the various requirements for each position and worked his way up to Foreman and Branch Material Supervisor. He was a respected employee with a penchant for doing things right or not at all.
In retirement Frank enjoyed traveling, work in the Church, reading, being a Snow Bird, curling, Legion work, wood working and upholstery. Frank, you did it up right! We’ll miss you. Toodelydoo.
Frank is survived by his wife Betty; son Donald of Marathon, ON; step-sons Frank (JoAnne), Philip (Susan), Mark (Angie) and Darin (Yvonne) Evans; step-daughters Joann (Ed) Curran, Ellen (Ian) Ruddick and Julie (David) Coyle; 14 grandchildren Amy, Stephanie, Richard, Rebecca, Nathan, Jane, Maggie, Celia, Julia, Shauna, Heather, Tara, Danielle, and Caleb; eight great grandchildren; sister Louise Mercer; sister-in-law Mary Pickle, Marg (Paul) Lafond and Jante Akerley; brother-in-law Lloyd Thompson; several nephews and nieces.
