Obituary of Annie Post

The death of Annie Marie (Townsend) Post, age 92, of Sussex, NB, wife of the late Rev. Allison Post, occurred at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, NB, on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. She was born on March 4, 1919, in East Green Harbour, NS, the daughter of the late Edwin and Flora (MacKenzie) Townsend. Annie was reared with two sisters and one brother until the death of her mother at the age of 16. When Annie was about 18 years of age, a young handsome evangelist Allison W. (Buddy) Post arrived in town to minister in her home church. It was almost love at first sight and in a short time they were married and moved to New Brunswick where they pastored for several years in various towns. In 1955 Annie and Buddy took their four young children to Sri Lanka for a period of about three and one half years of missions work. During that time, a fifth child was born to their family and after their return to New Brunswick in 1959, their sixth and final child was born making a well rounded family of three boys and three girls. They pastored in the province until the late seventies, after which they continued to minister, traveling to many foreign nations teaching in Bible Schools. When the Posts celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1987, over 300 family, friends and fellow ministers gathered to pay tribute to them. In honor of Rev. & Mrs. A. W. Post, the Post Memorial Library was dedicated in 2011 at the Northeast Christian College in Fredericton. Even after her husband’s death in 1991, Annie continued to minister personally by her example and with her contagious smile, winning personality and great love for all people. The wise man in Proverbs speaks of children rising up to call their mother blessed and Annie’s children would corroborate such a statement in reference to their mother. Annie spent her last two years in the Kiwanis Nursing Home in Sussex where she won the hearts of the staff and her fellow residents. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Annie is survived by her daughters Helen and her husband Rev. John Tompkins of Saint John, Donna and her husband Richard Burns of Caledonia, ON, Linda and her husband Rev. Gary Gleason of Oregon City, Oregon; sons Rev. Howard and his wife Carolyn Post of Lakewood, California, Jim and his wife Joanne Post of Passekeag, NB, Clayton and his wife Darlene Post of Sussex; grandchildren Nathan, Michelle, Dawn, Patrick, Penny, Donna, Stan, Andy, Tony, Alanna, Donna, Allison, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Caleb; great grandchildren Seth, Emily, Myra, Justin, Hannah, Bridgitte, Gabrielle, Brady, Emily, Jasmine, Cole; half brother Hubert; half sisters Elaine, Ruby, Beulah, Malinda; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
