Obituary of Carl Boyd

The death of Carl Lee Boyd, age 60, husband of Jane (Wyman) Boyd of Kars, NB, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, NB, on Tuesday, March 22, 2011. He was born on July 29, 1950, in Hatfield Point, NB, the son of Lee and Helen (Ganong) Boyd. Carl was a man of good intentions some of which were completed. He was a craftsman as his "Tor" Dingy proves. He loved working with wood and after his boat was completed and proved "sea-worthy" he built a small Rocking Dory for his grandson, Parker, who lives on Grand Manan. Logan became the proud owner of a wooden wagon to pull behind his mini Kubota tractor. I am sure that Emma would have been given something worthy of being the only girl in our family in a long time. Carl also was a true volunteer. When UNBSJ Medical School was looking for people to be "patients", Carl thought that it would be something to do to keep interacting with people after his retirement. He enjoyed each session he went to and was sure that some of those "kids" would make wonderful doctors. During his work life he was involved with the CPPMA, and was one of the original members of the Human Resource Officers for the Department of Transportation in New Brunswick. He was the last one to retire from that position. Because of his work with the Belleisle Valley Fire Department he became a member of the CISM team in Sussex. His expertise was used greatly in many critical situations involving death and tragedy. During the past years, Carl wrote poetry and many poems were meant for particular people in times of stress and trials. His words had the calming affect of knowing that someone cared and could almost touch your soul with empathy. Rug hooking was something else he enjoyed and was in the process of making a "Welcome" sign for some lucky person. Although he didn't travel much, he enjoyed hearing the stories of others and programs that would transport you to any place, anywhere in minutes. Cooking shows were a favorite and sometime we were guinea pigs for some "new" recipe. He was a wonderful husband, never would argue, just never would talk until the first move was made toward a compromise, usually mine! I remember when we were dating, I foolishly said I couldn't wait to do his laundry! Well, I certainly wished I hadn't said that! When Alex and Daniel were born he was the proudest of fathers. He was involved in their lives almost to the point of picking their wives! His grandchildren were a joy to him. Logan was sure that Grampy's tractor should always be at his house. Parker was just getting to know him and Emma will have him as a guardian angel. Church and his Bible were important and the Daily Bread was always read..his Max Lucado study Bible is well marked with important verses. Carl was a wonderfully diverse person, loving, caring and very sensitive. Hopefully we will all benefit from his strong love and duty to family and the wonderful legacy he has left. Dad was always up to something, from plowing snow for neighbors, checking in on you, writing poetry and being very active throughout the community. Due to his ‘slow’ driving capabilities, he would always be amazed at how we, his children, could be to "Moncton and back" by lunch and then heading off somewhere else in the afternoon. Dad was never in a hurry. He enjoyed spending time at home with family and friends, comforting those who needed it, and encouraging those around him. Full of compliments and stories, he always put a smile on everyone’s face who came into contact with him. Through the years, Dad has been involved in many community organizations, consisting of: the Belleisle Home and School Association, Belleisle Valley Family Fun Days, and has been a member of the Belleisle Valley Fire Department for 33 years, and chief for 15 of those years. Dad retired in January 2010 from the Department of Transportation where he worked for 31 years. Prior to this, he worked for his father’s company, Boyd Construction, in Saint John and surrounding area. If you have known dad in any way, you always felt better for being around him. He was a friend to many, a wonderful husband, Dad and ‘Grampy’. He will be sadly missed. Lots of love to you, Dad! Along with being a wonderful husband, father, son and grampy, Carl was our youngest sibling and only brother. When he was born we girls didn't think we wanted a brother, but he soon won our hearts and we loved him dearly. I am sure at times that he felt a bit overwhelmed by all the female opinions he received, but was quick to share his and correct us if he felt we were wrong. He had a great sense of humor and we had many great times together. Carl had a very generous heart and took great pleasure in looking after Mom and Dad, helping out in any way he could. Once he retired, he was willing to take them anywhere they needed to go and loved doing so. At all our family gatherings, he would always be eager to help out and in the summertime, loved to do the barbequing, always making sure that everything was cooked to perfection. We have enjoyed many wonderful family times together and he will be sadly missed by all of us. Our love to you Carl.
