Obituary of Gordon Chittick

The death of Gordon Chittick of Norton, NB, age 83, occurred at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre, Hampton, NB, on Saturday, January 15, 2011. He was born in Saint John, NB, on July 27, 1927, the son of the late George and Alberta (Nelson) Chittick. Our Grampy was awesome. He was always ready with a funny comment or a joke, could always get us laughing, and he was always cooking. We remember specifically all the times we woke up to the smell of breakfast, and the many Christmas dinners that were shared at his home in Norton. One of our fondest memories is when Grampy took us for rides on the tractor or the loader. He was always keeping busy with his work in the fields and looking after the gardens, and we would often watch from the big windows with Nana. A hug was always to be expected from Grampy, and he always made the same strange noise with his cheeks when we gave him a hug. Whenever he got his haircut he wouldn’t admit it, he’d say he got his ears lowered. He always had the same sharp looking brushcut. We’ll never forget the day in the hospital when Grampy met with nana for the first time in months. He was in the greatest mood that day. A more specific memory that Grampy loved to share was the day he was at Laurie’s farm gutting the chickens, young grandson Ben, probably around 3 years old, entered the barn. Upon viewing the mess Grampy was making with the chicken in hand, Ben said “Grampy–Himths gonna be thum mad when heim wakesth up–”. Gordon is survived by his wife Myrna; daughters Laurie Osburn (Brad) of Norton, Karen Reinhart (Wil) of Quispamsis; grandchildren Ben, Brodie, Bree, Bethany, Bailee, Jordan, Kaylee, Anneke; brother Tom and Judy Chittick of Michigan; sister Heather and Keith Dow of Kingston, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Thorne and her husband John. At Gordon’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, have been entrusted with arrangements. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lung Association or the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
