The death of Charis Claude (Hamm) Thorne, age 61, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Friday, October 1, 2010. She was the wife of Arthur Thorne, of Cambridge-Narrows, NB. Charis was born on December 6, 1948, in Saint John, NB, the daughter of the late Arnold and Dolly (Northrup) Hamm. Whether you knew her as Ma, Mom, Grammy or Charis, you knew that her greatest passion was her family; especially her grandchildren. When not camping with Pa, or cooking for her family, she could be found in her comfy chair knitting or reading. Her kindness and sense of humour will live on in her family but memories will never be enough. She is survived by her husband Arthur; daughters Nova Lea Thorne of Calgary, AB, and Carla and Carl Gahan of Fredericton; sons Jody and Heather Thorne of Salmon Creek and Carman and Lorraine Thorne of Cambridge-Narrows; grandchildren Brandon, Sydney, Sawyer, Carrie and Spencer; brother Barry Hamm of Saint John; sister-in-law Donna Hamm of Cambridge-Narrows; brother-in-law Ken Wendt of Edmonton, AB; aunt Chris Hamm of London, ON; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by sister Sandra Wendt and brother Brian Hamm. She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Monday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service, conducted by Pastor Dan Walton, will be held from Cody’s Baptist Church, Cody’s, NB, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 5, 2010. Interment will follow in Narrows Baptist Cemetery. Donations to the Cancer Society or the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
