Obituary of Pearl Snodgrass

The death of Pearl Agnes (Jeffrey) Snodgrass, age 94, occurred at the Mill Cove Nursing Home, Mill Cove, NB, on Monday, September 13, 2010. She was born on July 15, 1916, at Bagdad, NB, the daughter of the late Isaac and Alice (Wiggins) Jeffrey. She was the widow of Harry W. Snodgrass, her husband of 53 years. Pearl attended Provincial Normal School in 1934-35, then taught school in several rural NB areas. A nursing graduate (RN) of the Ottawa Civic Hospital, class of 1943A, she raised her family, while providing various nursing services to community members; returned to nursing fulltime in 1966; and retired in 1981. She was a Life Member of the O.C.H. School of Nursing Alumnae, former member of the Women’s Institute, the Women’s Liberal Association, a faithful member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, a Women’s Auxiliary (WA) and later an ACW member, member of the Altar Guild, Vestry and a delegate to Synod. Loving mother of two daughters Nancy Wiggins and husband Frankie Wiggins of Coles Island and Janet Trifts and husband Jack Trifts of Smithfield, Rhode Island, USA ; one son Stephen and Betty Snodgrass of Hampton; five grandchildren Peter and Joyce Wiggins, Heather Wiggins and Bruce Grant; Stephanie and Bryan Bellamy, David and Lisa Snodgrass and Julie Snodgrass; nine great-grandchildren, Karley and Madeline Wiggins, Jaxon, Evan, Carter and Reid Bellamy, Maia, Anders and Stella Grant. Also survived by two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, J.R. and Dorothy Snodgrass, Everett Barton and Ferne Jeffrey; as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends. Pearl was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Predeceased by husband Harry (1996); son Nathan (1960); granddaughter Karen (1977); six brothers, Beecher, Bruce, Alfred, Amos, Gordon, Harold Jeffrey; and four sisters, Lottie Springer, Mae Northrup, Louise Barton and Jean Leech. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Haines, the nurses and all staff of Mill Cove Nursing Home, for their compassionate care over the past 4 years. Resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral service, conducted by Canon Wally Corey, will be held from St. Luke's Anglican Church, Young's Cove, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010. Interment will follow in Young's Cove United Church Cemetery. No flowers by request.
