Obituary of Muriel Hughes

It is with great sadness that the family of Muriel Hughes announces her sudden passing, which occurred on Saturday, October 24th, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Sussex, NB, on May 9, 1961, she was the daughter of Clarence and the late Frances (Duplisea) Urquhart. A loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Muriel was remarkable in every sense of the word. At 59 years of age, her time on this earth was much too short but after a second battle with cancer, she was ready to pass from this life to the next. While we wish we had more time with her, and that things could have been different, we are deeply grateful for the memories made together. Muriel was an artist. She was happiest when she was creating and was always dreaming up new projects, from sewing and painting, to playing guitar and songwriting. Whether she was working on an oil painting or collecting pieces from nature, she had a way of making the most unadorned things in life seem so beautiful. Like much of the art she created, Muriel was vivacious and full of life. Her kind eyes and bright smile could light up a room and no matter the situation, she was always ready to help those around her. We will miss her big heart, her generosity, and her unconditional love. Muriel is survived by her children: Jessica and Daniel Hughes of Belleisle, NB; brothers: Barry Urquhart and his wife Debbie of Quispamsis, NB and Kevin Urquhart and his wife Rosilee of Kars, NB; sisters: Heather Hughes and her husband Gordie of Midland, NB, Adrian Boyd and her husband Gary of Red Deer, AB, Jane Belyea and her husband Brad of Kingston, NB and Nancy Urquhart of Kars, NB; father of her children and lifelong friend Ron Hughes as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8PM from Outreach Pentecostal Church, 2129 Route 124, Hatfield Point, NB. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will be held. Interment will take place at Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield Point, NB. Memorial donations in memory of Muriel can be made to the charity of your choice with preference given to local art-based organizations.
