Obituary of Victor Mercer

It is with great sadness that the family of Victor Redstone Mercer, of Norton, NB, announce his passing on October 7, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Norton on July 30, 1940, he was a son of the late Charles and Janie Mercer. Victor was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He had a passion for antique cars and was often seen proudly driving his Model A and Chevy Coupe around the streets of Norton and Sussex, to car shows and parades. He lived for the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, biking, and the maple syrup season. He always enjoyed a good game of cards or darts. He will be remembered most for the love he had for his family. Victor is survived by his children: Garry Mercer (Treasa) of Southfield, Steven Mercer of Norton, Gloria Mercer of Sussex, Clifford Mercer (Dianne Savoie) of Southfield, and Tracey Mercer (Marc Maillet); his grandchildren: Julie Mercer, Lauren Mercer, Mitchell Mercer, and Brendan Maillet; and his great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Brooklyn. Victor is also survived by his brothers: Clayton Mercer (Muriel), and Nelson Mercer (Heather); his sisters: Ida Virtue, Patricia Grant, Vera Dunham, and Sheila Nodwell (Dale Dyer); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Victor was predeceased by his late wife, Shirley May (Mitchell) Mercer; his brothers: Lawrence and Lester Mercer; his sisters: Mary Tays, Evelyn Hayes, and Angela Murphy; and his brothers-in-law: John Dunham, Bernard Virtue, Art Grant, and Donald Murphy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Monday October 12th from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Victor may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
