Obituary of Frank J. VAN DER LAAN
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Jurjen VAN DER LAAN at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on October 19, 2019. He was the husband of Paulette (Ganong) Boyd of Hatfield Point, New Brunswick. Frank was born on December 6, 1932 in Heerenveen, The Netherlands, the son of the late Jacob and IJtje (Koksma) VAN DER LAAN.
Frank was born and lived in the Netherlands until immigrating to Canada in 1982. While living in the Netherlands Frank was a water sports enthusiast and an avid sailor spending many hours with his family on the Dutch and Frisian lakes and waterways. Frank was employed in the agricultural sector, a passion he developed while growing up in rural Friesland. After moving to Canada Frank was a frequent traveller covering many miles in his truck and fifth wheel trailer crossing Canada and North America from coast to coast. Frank was also an avid gardener and took great pride in maintaining the family homestead in Hatfield Point.
Besides his wife Paulette, Frank is survived by his three sons Jaap Sieger (Wil) of The Netherlands , Paul (Shelley) of Fredericton, NB and Frankjan (Brenda) of Kingston, ON; grandchildren Joost, Luuk, Gijs, Anna, Eden, Mitch, Alex, Adam and Kate; two brothers Bob (Annie) and Jacob (Maaike); three sisters Martha Huisman, Ytie (Bauke) Krol, and Rimke Konstapel ; and sister-in-law Antoinette VAN DER LAAN.
Frank was predeceased by his first wife Pietie (Patty); two sisters Mien and Eiske and two brothers John and Sieger.
He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visitation on Wednesday, October 23, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 24, 2019, from Hatfield Point Baptist Church. A private family interment will follow in Bayview Cemetery.
