Obituary of Vivian Patriquen

At the age of 102, on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 Surrounded by her loving family, Vivian Patriquen went home to be with her Saviour. Vivian was the wife of the late Donald Patriquen and the daughter of the late Samuel and Henrietta (Anderson) Walker. Mum was born in Walker Settlement, NB on March 13, 1917. At 18 months old her family moved to Norton where she would spend the next 100 years. She went to Normal School and studied to be a teacher, later teaching in a one room school. After marrying Dad, she worked alongside of him in the family garage business. She was an active member of the St. Andrews United Church in Norton for her entire life where she loved serving, teaching Sunday School, leading CGIT, going to UCW. She served wherever she was needed. Mum`s faith in Christ was always front and center and evident in her life. Her love for sewing and quilt making was fierce. Every quilt was stitched with precision, ripping out and resstitching until it was perfect. She was really happiest when she had a quilt on the go and often stitched well into the night. Her quilt guild was like her second family and she loved every one of the members. They treated her like she was the Queen. Mum loved deeply and her love for her family, especially Dad, was huge. When he went home 12 years ago, she never stopped missing him, but in God’s strength she moved forward to take on new things and enjoy new challenges. Her grand children and great grandchildren were very important to her. She was always excited to have a visit from them and share some candy or play a game– Always interested to know what they were doing and she loved to check out their pictures on Facebook . The Belleisle Bay and doing a jigsaw puzzle or playing a game there on the deck were a couple of Mum`s favourite pastimes. She and Dad sitting on the swing sharing the newspaper and looking up the Bay were favourite memories we all have of them. Vivian is survived by son Wayne and Christine, of Quispamsis and daughter, Sandy and Doug Hall, of Norton and grandchildren; Joel Patriquen and Mary Ann Foley of Quispamsis, Nathan and Lori Patriquen of Grand Bay, Melanie and Michael Waddell of the Philippines and Jayme and Donna Hall of Norton, as well as 15 great grandchildren, Sister in Law Mary (Harding) Walker, nieces and nephew and 1 cousin, June Tabor of Sussex. In addition to her husband and parents, Vivian was predeceased by her brother Weldon and his wife Gladys (Hutchins) and her brother Vernon. Visiting at Sherwood's Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held from Midland Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Wednesday, followed by a reception at Sherwood's Chapel. A private family interment will be in Riverbank Cemetery. Gram had several special ministries that she supported over the years, but two that are particularly close to her heart are ministries two of her grandchildren are involved in.
