Obituary of Elizabeth Jost

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Audrey Elizabeth Jost (nee Hayes) of Cambridge-Narrows, New Brunswick, announce her death on May 29th ,at the age of 87. Fondly known by friends and family as Beth, she died peacefully at Oromocto Hospital surrounded by family. She was born in Montreal, Quebec on June 27, 1930, to the late Ronald and Audrey (MacCrae) Hayes Beth had very fond memories of time spent with her grandparents on their farm in Bloomfield, NB. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with Honours in History, from Mount Allison University in 1954, and went on to earn her Master’s degree, in Library Sciences, from the University of Toronto. While at Mt. A, she met and married the love of her life, Norman A. Jost. Beth always considered herself a New Brunswicker and returned to New Brunswick permanently in 1976. She and Norm retired to Cambridge-Narrows in 1987. Throughout her life, Beth was a lover of classical music, often listening to Mozart or opera. She was an accomplished pianist and a voracious reader, sharing her love of both with her children and grandchildren. A proud descendent of United Empire Loyalists, she devoted much of her time in pursuit of family genealogy and was always eager to recount a story from her family’s history. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, her son Frank and daughter-in-law Beth, grandchildren Zoe and her husband Ronny, Tasha, Emma, Ellen, and Ewan, and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her son, Ron, in 2015. A celebration of her life will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, June 30, at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. Interment will follow at Big Rock Cemetery, Bloomfield. Donations in memory of Beth may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
