Obituary of Gordon Smith
It is with sadness that the family of Gordon Smith, "Gordy", age 84, of Searsville, NB, announces his death which occurred at his home with his son and daughter by his side, on March 1, 2017. He was born on June 27, 1932 in Saint John, NB, the son of the late Gordon Ferguson and Edna Marion (Smith) Smith.
Gordon worked with Maple Leaf Mills in Saint John, NB for over 30 years as a grain operator. He enjoyed music at the Sussex Jubilee Hall, Sussex Corner United Hall, and the Hammondville Jefferies Fire Dept. Hall, spending time outside watching the many different birds at his home on the millstream, and just enjoyed life every day.
Gordon is survived by his children: Robert (Maureen) Smith, and Lidia McCord of Searsville, NB, Caroline Steeves (Lawrence Gordon) of Black Diamond, AB, Doreen Cook of BC, and Jane Smith (Jim Ellis) of Marrtown, NB; grandchildren: Jason (Tonya) Cook of Morley, AB, Tanya (Jason) Legacy of Moncton, NB, Sean and Alex McCord of Tennessee; great grandchildren: Tyson, Kera and Teyla Cook, Marissa and Paige Legacy; brothers: David (Carolyn) Smith, Raymond (Hilda) Smith, and Wally (Valerie) Smith, all of Saint John, NB; Sisters: Emma (Leo) Horgan, and Carol (Orval) Stere, all of Ontario; sisters-in-law: Ruth Smith, Susan Smith, Dawn Maston and Ethel Bartlett; brother-in-law Edmund Jacquard; special close friend, Edna Dever of Grand Bay, NB; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his first wife Eva (Bartlett) Smith; companion Jennie (Forgrave) Smith; brothers: Jimmy (Eleanor) Smith, Donnie Smith, Leonard Smith, Danny Smith of Saint John, NB; sisters: Doris (Jerrry) McGaghey, Phyllis Jacquard, and Elizabeth (Wesley) Driscoll, brother-&-sister-in-law: Murray Bartlett, Sussex, NB, and Lillian (Johnnie) Coone.
Special thanks to Rose Stockdale, RN, Todd Munford, RT, Shelly Chown, RN, and staff of Extra-Mural for their loving care, Robin Myles with Hospice for her weekly visits, Red Cross for supplies, and all the caregivers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. A Celebration of Gordon’s life with the Interment at Lower Millstream Baptist Cemetery will be held in late spring, details to be announced.
Donations in memory of Gordon may be made to the Homesteaders Association, Inc. a non-profit organization working to restore back to its former glory the Schoales Dam Ranger Camp. Gordon looked forward to seeing this project to its completion; therefore, all donations will be made in his memory will be greatly appreciated.
