Obituary of Jean Newell

With great sadness the family announce the death of Jean (Jane) Scott Newell, age 93, wife of Kenneth Newell for 72 years, of Springfield, NB, which occurred at the Belleisle Manor on February 10, 2017. Jean was born December 13, 1923 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the daughter of the late George and Jemima (Pitello) Turnbull. Jean was a war bride. She worked as a seamstress before marriage in Edinburgh. She was very good at making clothes for children, knitting, doing cross stitch and other fancy work. Jean liked to play badminton and bowl. She was a member of the Norton Ladies Auxiliary of the Norton Legion, UCW of Kings Kirk, Belleisle Creek Seniors Club and Sussex Corner Seniors Bowling Club. Jean is survived by her husband Ken; son Terry and Carolyn of Cambridge, ON; daughters Linda and Michael Bailey of Sussex, Joyce and Vernon Munro of Midland and Heather and Glenn Totton of Norton; son-in-law Norman Munro of Kiersteadville; sisters-in-law Ella Turnbull and Polly Berry; 11 grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, Nicholas, Aaron, Seth, Abby, Wendy, Scott, Jaclyn, Melissa and Jeremy; 11 great grandchildren Nora, Evan, Lylah, Kate, Marshall, Maddox, Terence, Caleb, Patrick, Kiera and Jack; several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her daughter Brenda; brothers Bob and Sam; sister Mina. Visitation will take place at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held from Sherwood's Funeral Home Chapel at 9:30 am, Friday, February 17, 2017. Interment in Midland Cemetery will take place in the spring. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Extra Mural Fund, Kings Kirk United, or the memorial of the donor’s choice.
