Obituary of Gerald Mott

Gerald Gilbert Mott, 83, husband of Betty (Jones) Mott, of Belyea’s Cove, NB, passed away surrounded by his family on May 18, 2016, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Only a couple months ago, Gerald was splitting wood at his home, but his health declined quickly, after being diagnosed with leukemia in April. The son of the late Garnet and Minnie (Logue) Mott, Gerald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty; his son Wayne and Margaret of Belyea’s Cove and daughter Lisa and Mark Bettle of Hampton; his brothers Earl and Frances of Fredericton, NB; Percy of London, ON; and Russell and Irene of Belyea’s Cove, NB; and sister Judy and Bud Urquhart of Springfield, NB. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Cory (Monica Wach), Nikki (Keith Jardine), Katie, and Michael, great-grandchild, Jake Jardine, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Rowena. Gerald was self-employed for most of his working life and in later years was employed by the New Brunswick Department of Transport. An avid sports fan, in younger days he played baseball and hockey, having a short hockey "career" with the Wickham Ramblers. A true outdoorsman, Gerald enjoyed hunting, trapping and tending to his vegetable garden. Gerald’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff in the Oncology and Palliative Care Units, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Their kindness and compassion were greatly appreciated during a difficult time. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visitation from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm on Friday. Funeral service will be held from Central Wickham Baptist Church, McDonald’s Point, NB, on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 2:00 pm. A private family interment will take place in Shannon Cemetery.
