Obituary of Allan Ness

The death of Allan Ness, age 86, husband of the late Frieda (Northrup) Ness, of Belleisle Creek, NB., occurred at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, NB, on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. He was born in Belleisle Creek, NB, on May 24, 1929, the son of the late Robert and Mabel (McConnell) Ness. Allan was devoted to his wife and family. He looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved treating them to candy. He loved Belleisle Creek – that was HOME. Although his work took him away at times he always headed to Belleisle for the weekend. His work life began early at age 14. He worked in saw mills, lumber camps, worked at garages as a mechanic and later became owner operator of Allan’s Fina Service in Belleisle. He also worked at road construction. He went as a mechanic to NBCC in Saint John and later was asked to be an instructor. He took courses at UNB for two summers for teaching, in order to accomplish this goal. He finished his career at the DOT in Sussex. After retirement Allan continued with his outdoor pursuits, as well as, woodworking on his lathe. He made over 100 walking sticks for friends and family. He loved restoring old tractors and antique engines. Allan was a founding member of the Belleisle Valley Fire Department. He was involved with the Belleisle Creek Hall, the Shriners, the Masons and the Big Brother Association (Russell Keeping). He was a member of Kings Kirk United Church where he served as an Elder and helped with the church construction and upkeep. Allan and Frieda worked together with U-pick blueberry fields and their Christmas tree plantation. Allan is survived by his daughters Linda and Cyril Vail of Belleisle Creek, Valerie and Stephen Hayes of Midland; sons Rodney and Rose Ness of Fredericton, and Layton and Brenda Ness of Belleisle Creek; grandchildren Patricia Vail and Amanda Brown, Tim and Crista Vail, Nick Vail and Stacy Floyd, Trevor and Marcia Hayes, Cory and Chantale Hayes, Andrew and Jessica Hayes, Julie and Joel McConchie, Adam and Yasmine Ness, Heidi and Daryl Cooper, Michael and Kalie Ness and Derek Ness and Jorden Woodcock; great grandchildren Emily, Brandon and Cameron Vail, Hannah and Ayden Vail, Lukas and Megan Hayes, Brooklyn and Logan Ness, Adele and Connell McConchie, Noah Hayes and Zoey Cooper; brothers Ray and Jack and Madeline Ness of Sussex; sister Mary and Howard Joynes of Belleisle Creek,; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Ness of Sussex and Patricia Ness of Ottawa, ON; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his; brothers Russell, Edward, Donald, Robert and Ronald Ness; sister Hattie Northrup. He was predeceased by brothers-in-law Gerald Northrup, Eldon Northrup, Pat Patterson, Wes Alcorn, Francis Kellier and Ray Neill; sisters-in-law Leona Northrup, Hazel Neill, Jane L. Ness, Jean E. Ness, Helen Ness, Alice Kellier and Jessie Patterson. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm on Friday. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Tom Robinson, will be held from Kings Kirk United Church, Belleisle Creek, NB, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 20, 2016. A private family interment will take place in St. Simon and St. Jude’s Anglican Cemetery, Belleisle Creek, NB. Donations to Kings Kirk United Church, the Kiwanis Nursing Home, the Alzheimer’s Society or the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
