Obituary of Margaret Stevens

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Jean Stevens announce her passing which occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Embassy Hall, Quispamsis, NB. Born on January 6, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Denton and Mamie (Coleman) Lawson.

Born at home on a farm along the banks of the Saint John River in Wickham, NB, to Denton and Mamie, Margaret inherited a lifelong work ethic and an unwavering resilience. Her determination led her to graduate as valedictorian from Belleisle Regional High School before embarking on a 30-plus-year career with the Bank of Montreal in Saint John. Even while managing a full-time career and a long daily commute from Springfield, Margaret was the foundation of a bustling home, raising her family with grace and ease. She never shied away from a task—whether retiring early to care for her husband, Beverley, or volunteering with her church and the Midland Women’s Institute. Margaret lived her life with wholehearted generosity, giving all she had to her family and her community alike.

Margaret is survived by her children: Andrew Stevens (Rachel) of Midland, NB, Leesha Stevens of Midland, NB, and Matthew Stevens (Kati) of Quispamsis, NB; grandchildren: Noah (Ashlynn), Ebony, Alexis and Willow; sisters: Evelyn Martin of Henderson Settlement, NB and Ruth Housken of Kingston, ON; sisters-in-law: Carol Lawson of Wickham, NB and Mary Lou Slipp of Wickham, NB; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Beverley Stevens; sister Eileen Vail; brothers Frank Lawson and Ralph Lawson; and brothers-in-law: Hedley Vail, Ronnie Martin, and Einar Housken. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. A Graveside Service will take place at Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield Point, NB on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 2:00pm.
