Obituary of Sherrill Chown
It is with great sadness that the family of Sherrill Lynn Chown announce her passing which occurred on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Mill Cove Nursing Home, Mill Cove, NB. Born in Sussex, NB, on March 1, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Ella (Brown) Keirstead.
Sherrill was a dedicated nurse and caregiver as well as active member of the Collina community. She had a love for history and also was a two-time author: A Light in the Valley (1987) and Facial Expressions of Home (1993). She was a prolific talented painter and artist.
She loved her home and her family and was enamoured with each of her grandchildren as they arrived. Her love for her husband, George however was unmatched and even survived the struggles of Alzheimer’s disease. She was well loved and she will be missed.
Sherrill is survived by her children: Robin Chown of Toronto, ON, Noel Chown (Carlene Doyle) of Gibbon Mountain, NB and Lawana Adepoju (Akinade) of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren: Gabriel, Chloe, Michael, Lily and Elijah; brothers: Garvin Keirstead of Ottawa, ON and Galen Keirstead (Esther) of Collina, NB; sister Joyce Folkins (Grant) of Rothesay, NB; and many extended family.
Besides her parents, Sherrill was predeceased by her loving husband George Chown (May 2025); brother Melvin Keirstead; sisters: Janice Berkland, Shirley Holcombe, Beryl Sears, Meredith Keirstead, and Sydney Keirstead.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 2:00 to 5:00pm. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 1:00pm from Sherwood’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Kierstead Mountain Cemetery.
