Obituary of Iris Ferris

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Iris May (Jeffery) Ferris announce her passing, which occurred at her residence in Bagdad, NB on July 14, 2026 at the age of 87. Iris was born in the family home in Bagdad, NB on January 26, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Thomas A. Jeffery and May Viola (Roberts) Jeffery.

Iris graduated from Teacher’s College in 1957 and went on to teach in Cambridge Narrows for several years. She married Cecil in 1958, and they lived beside the old, covered bridge in Cambridge Narrows until the Great Groundhog Gale of 1976 which destroyed the bridge and caused the government to expropriate their property to build a new bridge. They then moved their house to Bagdad, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Iris worked for many years as a cook at the old McCready’s Restaurant in Young’s Cove, where she was famous for her coconut cream pies!

She was always an active member of All Saints Anglican Church and was recently recognized by the Bishop as being one of the first female lay readers in the Anglican Church. Mom was a wealth of knowledge, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her loving daughter Meagan (Lloyd) Belyea of Bagdad, NB; sister Doris Warren of Guelf, ON; brother Trevor (Louise) Jeffery of Malakwa, BC; her two very special grandsons (whom she dearly loved) Evan and Brody Belyea; sisters-in-law: Glenna McIntyre, Marilyn Foster, Reta Brown, Mary Breedon and Esther Ferris; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Iris was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Cecil Ferris; her brothers: Donald, Glenn, Merlyn, and Peter Jeffery, and her sister Laura Magee.

The family would like to acknowledge the dedication and kindness of the staff at Home Care Plus, who went above and beyond to make her last years so enjoyable.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Sherwood’s Funeral Home (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB where the visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 12:00 to 2:00pm with the funeral immediately following at 2:00pm.
