Obituary of Carl Appleby

It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the peaceful passing of Carl Shelton Appleby, which occurred on Friday, June 19, 2026 at his residence in Cambridge, NB. Born on March 27, 1936, in Cambridge Narrows, NB, he was a son of the late Shelton and Doris (Fanjoy) Appleby.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Violet Appleby (Reader) of Cambridge Narrows, NB; daughter Brenda Totten (Gary) of Barnesville, NB, son Troy Appleby (April) of Cambridge Narrows, NB, daughter-in-law, Cheryl Appleby of Cambridge Narrows; 4 grandchildren: Katie, Mitchell, Kyle and Chelsea; 2 great-grandchildren: Raya and Sawyer; sister Louise Fanjoy of Fredericton, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by his son Kenneth Appleby and brother-in-law Robert Fanjoy.

Carl was a trade mechanic, working at various dealerships early in his career. He opened the airport Irving Service Station across from the Saint John Airport and operated that before moving on to operate his own garage in the backyard. He then went to work at the Saint John Airport as a mechanic and retired from there as mobile maintenance supervisor in 1995.

Retirement brought him back to Cambridge Narrows where he spent countless hours gardening, working on the woodlots and hunting. He loved to spend many hours on his Kubota tractor and side by side.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. The Graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at the Narrows Baptist Cemetery (1717 Waterside Drive Cambridge Narrows, NB)
