Obituary of Douglas MacDonald
It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Douglas MacDonald announce his passing which occurred on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Fredericton, NB, on January 7, 1967, he was the son of the late Percy and Margaret (Crossman) MacDonald.
Douglas started his career in trucking at an early age, dedicating over 36 years to the industry and driving for various companies. Throughout his career, he received numerous Safe Driver Awards, a testament to his commitment safety and professionalism on the road.
A devoted father and grandfather, Douglas cherished his time with his daughter Emily and his grandchildren. Whenever he had a layover near Bowmanville, Ontario, he always made it a point to stop in and spend quality time with them.
In addition to his career, Douglas was a passionate lover of classic cars and enjoyed attending car shows whenever he was able. His happiest moments were spent with his loving wife, Joanne, as they embarked on road trips to visit friends and create lasting memories together.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Joanne (Weir) MacDonald of Midland, NB; daughter Emily Cormier (Ryan Alpine) of Bowmanville, ON; grandchildren: Ruby, Elijah, Kylie and Hope; brothers: Brian, Gary, Bobby, John, Kenny and Danny MacDonald; sisters: Agnes McMackin (Thomas) and Helen MacDonald; mother-in-law Gina Weir; sister-in-law Donna O’Hanley (Dave); brothers-in-law Shawn Weir (Mary), and Gordie Weir; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB where visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
