Obituary of Doug Boone

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Weyman Boone “Boonie” which occurred on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Queenstown, NB, on February 1, 1936, he was the son of the late Weyman and Muriel (Edwards) Boone.

Doug lived his entire life for his sweetheart Ruth, his talented daughter Joyce, the Belleisle Fire Department and Valley View Sales. Doug lived a long, full life and experienced it to the fullest. In his younger years, he was in the army reserves, he was a pilot, involved in the dept. of Agriculture (with the tiling machine), worked on the railway and travelled all over for car races.

Doug was a master mechanic and specialized in VWs and over the years owned and worked on many motorbikes, snowmobiles, boat and race cars. He even designed and built award winning motors for formula V circuit race cars that went on to win races as Doug worked in the pit crew. Doug & Ruth enjoyed many years of winning Car Rallies, with Doug at the wheel and Ruth as his co-pilot.

Doug also had a long musical and sound career and was regarded as a world class soundman in the community by many bands. Joyce, who was the apple of his eye, sang many years with bands and was inducted into the NB Country Music Hall of Fame in 2023. This was the highlight of her life as well as Doug’s.

He was the founding father and the first fire chief in 1978 of the Belleisle Valley Fire Department and always had a calling to help in anyway he could there. Doug, Bill Sherwood, and Bob Sherwood founded Valley View Sales (Texaco). He worked long days in Saint John, he would come home, then go to Midland and put skidoos together at night. When the garage was built, he decided to just work there. Doug was a pillar for the Belleisle and Springfield area and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, their incredible neighbours, especially Rob, Kate & Jaxon McDonald and Kim Giddens and all who knew him.

Doug is survived by his loving sweetheart, Ruth Boone (Pearson) of Springfield, NB; cherished daughter Joyce Boone (adopted in 1972) of Saint John, NB; grandson Justin Wanamaker; brother Larry Boone (Beth); sister Bette Ann Weaver (Charlie); brother-in-law Bill Pearson (Faye); sister-in-law Betty Boone; special niece Cathy Henderson (John); as well as many other nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his twin brother Donald Boone; and sister Helen Stockford.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), Norton, NB.  A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held from 2:00PM to 6:00PM on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from the Belleisle Community Centre. Donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Doug Boone Memorial Scholarship (a scholarship set up for a high school graduate pursuing an education in the first responders field of Paramedicine or fire fighting) or to Sussex Extra Mural. Personal condolences to the family and memorial donations may be made through SherwoodsFuneralHome.com.
