Obituary of Rob McLaughlan
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Michael Robert “Rob” McLaughlan announce his passing which occurred on Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Sussex, NB, on February 6, 1970, he was a loving son of Robert and Pearl (Isbill) McLaughlan.
In addition to his parents, Rob is survived by his beloved wife Charman McLaughlan (Cookson) of Kars, NB; cherished boys: Spencer, Carter and Daniel McLaughlan; sister Candice Maxwell (Scott) of Moncton, NB; brother Dwayne McLaughlan (Jami) of Penobsquis, NB; father and mother-in-law, John and Joan Cookson; brothers-in-law: James Cookson (Marlene), Malcolm Cookson (Karen) and Michael Cookson (Debbie); nieces: Kyra, Eliza, Jessica, Katie and Kathleen; nephews: Jacob, Parker, Matthew and Stephen; best friend Peter Vail; as well as many great nieces, great nephew, extended family and friends.
Rob was a Power Engineering Technologist by trade but was talented at many other skills. With respect to his job, he was professional and it showed in his own desire for continued education and the commitment to having a better workplace for the people he worked with. He was smart, actually extremely intelligent but in a quiet and unassuming way. No matter what he was doing, be it fixing a vehicle to troubleshooting a problem, he was always determined to find an answer.
Rob had a big heart; was a good soul who did no one wrong and his huge number of friendships existed from every chapter of his life. He would talk to everyone, help anyone, say sorry when it wasn’t his fault, he was the kind of “Kind” that there are few of. Rob was an amazing story teller who was the first to laugh at his own jokes. Rob loved to spend time at the trailer where he was always stoking the bonfire, and dancing a perfect high knee jig to the music he loved! Rob was genuine and contagiously fun! Rob was almost never on time to the point that his close friends established a new time zone: MDT (McLaughlan Delayed Time). However, Rob ALWAYS showed up!
Rob most importantly adored his family and was determined to be a good father to his boys, and that he was. Rob enriched the lives of all that knew him. He never complained, even at his sickest, in order to protect his loved ones from their worry.
Rob found his purpose in life through his everyday gestures and it didn’t go unnoticed. We love you and will miss you desperately!! Thank you for all you were.
