Obituary of Porter MacDonald

It is with broken hearts and overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of James Porter MacDonald, which occurred tragically on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

“Porter Boy” was born in Saint John, New Brunswick to Gordon Harvey MacDonald and Tracy Denise Cassidy.  Porter graduated from College Avenue Secondary School, Woodstock, Ontario.  Porter was currently employed at Osco Rebar in Saint John, New Brunswick.  He was a member of the local 809 Union of the Iron Workers.

He is survived by his loving parents, Harvey and Denise, his brother Cole (Sophie) Byvelds, niece Tessa, his sister Cassidy Rae (Colby Long) MacDonald, nephew Cory James, niece Carter Rae, his maternal grandmother Evelyn Cassidy, his uncles Jonathan (Amy) Cassidy, Matthew (Crystal) Cassidy, aunt Gillian (Tyler) Raeburn, uncle Dale (Anne) MacDonald, aunt Darlene MacDonald, aunt Gwen Ramsey, uncle Myles (Wendy Wilson) MacDonald, Rhonda (Tommy Godfrey) MacDonald, uncle Doug (Donna) MacDonald, Grant (Tina Connolly) MacDonald, uncle Darcy (Kelly) MacDonald, Darryl MacDonald and his much loved cousins: Shianne Cassidy, Liam and Gibson Raeburn, Blake Allen, Arlington, Evelyn, Matthew and Jozie Cassidy, Tim Curtis, Mallory Begin, Melissa MacDonald, Tera Rae Hartlenn, Logan MacDonald, Kyla MacDonald, Daniel MacDonald, Gabe MacDonald, Avery MacDonald, Caitlin Smith, Kyle Taker and special friends Cody St Louis, Brady Taylor and Eric Long.

Porter was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Roderick and Shirley MacDonald of Victoria, Prince Edward Island, his maternal grandfather David Edward Cassidy of Bloomfield, New Brunswick; uncle Eddie Ramsey of Tryon, Prince Edward Island; cousin Dwight Cassidy of Brookline, Massachusetts; uncle Bruce Long and cousin Shawn Long of Bloomfield Ridge, New Brunswick.

Porter Boy was loved and raised by the entire Cassidy clan.  Everyone felt they had a special part of him – and they did.  When he wasn’t working at Osco, he was working hard on the family farm, Oxbow Farm in Bloomfield surrounded by his family once again.  He loved living life on the edge – either on the trails on his motocross bike or four-wheeler or on the slopes snowboarding.  He was also an avid hockey player – in a rink or on a pond.  He had a big smile that lit up the room and an even bigger heart.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), Norton, NB where the visitation will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm. The Funeral service will be held at Bloomfield Baptist Church, Bloomfield, Friday October 3, 2025 at 11:00am. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
