Obituary of Rev. Robert Taylor

With sadness, the family of Rev. Robert “Bob” MacKenzie Taylor announce his passing, which occurred on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at St Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John, NB, following a very challenging few months. Bob was born on July 3, 1930, in Halifax, NS, a son of the late Carl and Jessie (Kidston) Taylor.

Dad’s ministry included several Baptist pastorates in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, including: Hall’s Harbour, NS (student ministry)1954, Rawdon, N.S. 1955-1959, Aldershot, North and South Alton, Blue Mountain and Steam Mill, NS 1959-1964, Spryfield, NS 1964 – 1968, New Harbour, Seal Harbour, Goldboro, Isaac’s Harbour, NS 1968-1974, Norton, Midland, Kiersteadville, NB 1974-1979, Dartmouth, NS 1979-1985, and Kingsclear, Prince William, NB 1985-1997.He then served for several years in interim and supply ministries in NS and NB. He had a heart for hospital chaplaincy and at times filled in for hospital chaplains during their vacation. He was a member of Jemseg Baptist Church.

Following his retirement Dad and Mum enjoyed their property on the Washademoak Lake. Dad spent many hours outdoors. In recent years he was happiest sitting on his deck watching the lake and looking at his trees waving in the breeze.

We are so thankful for the kind and compassionate care given to Dad by Bonnie Caissie, and Tamera and the other caregivers from Home Care Plus, Jemseg. This allowed Dad to stay in his cherished home in Cambridge Narrows on the lake.

Bob is survived by his daughters:  Kathy (Rev Dr John) Carroll of Hatfield Point, NB, Heather (Bob) Sherwood of Kiersteadville, NB, Deborah (Peter) McCready of Bloomfield, NB; sons: Rob Taylor (Yvonne van Beers) of Saint John, NB, Andrew Taylor (Daryll-Ann Leckey) of Lakeville Corner, NB; grandchildren: Beth Carroll (Bryan LaPlante) of Halifax, NS, Jennifer (Glen) Stackhouse of Norton, NB, Sean Carroll of Pocologan, NB, Brandon Carroll, Dustin Carroll, Wayne Carroll, Hatfield Point, NB, Ruth Carroll, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB, Taylor (Carly) McCready, Upham, NB, Josie McCready (Eric O’Brien) Lepreau, NB, Noah McCready, Bloomfield, NB; three great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ruth Betts, White Rock, BC . And several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents Bob was predeceased by his wife Jean (Betts) Taylor and his brother Rev. Howard (Marilyn) Taylor, and several cousins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, from where visitation will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00pm.  The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 1:00pm from Hatfield Point Baptist Church.
