Obituary of Wayne Neill

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Wayne Elwyn Neill announces his peaceful passing which occurred on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, NB.  Born in Springfield, NB on July 2, 1944, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Blanche (Morrell) Neill.

Wayne was born in Springfield at the former Sprague place, where Gillis Winery is now. His dad didn’t have a car and had to run to Hatfield Point to get the doctor when his mom went into labor. Five years later, Wayne became a big brother to Ivan. These two put their parents to the test, whether it involved goats, horses or vehicles. They were always into mischief.

Wayne went to the one-room schoolhouse across the road and then to the old Belleisle Regional High School and always told how he had to walk to school.

Wayne worked for Bridges Brothers in the blueberry fields, cut wood, worked at Tidal Chemicals, farmed, and was a custodian at the Belleisle Regional High School. He spent a lot of time with his family, his cousins and very good friends Barb and Ashley Milburn.

Wayne loved to hunt, spend time at the camp, play cards, read the newspaper from front to back, ride horses, hook up his team Barney and Dixie, visit family and friends, go for drives, eat out and torment his nieces and nephews - which he was very good at!

In 1984, Wayne had the opportunity to haul the LT. Governor George Stanley and his wife in the Belleisle Valley Fun Days with his beloved team Barney and Dixie which he loved to brag about!

Wayne was a long-time member of the Belleisle Valley Fire Department and was dedicated to his faith.

One of the highlights of his life was his trip to Boston in 2018 with Ivan, Vance, Mike and Connor to watch the Boston Bruins play the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Wayne‘s love of tormenting wasn’t solely for his nieces and nephews. He shared that ability with many and loved to tell stories and make everyone laugh!

Wayne’s last years have been in the care of many truly wonderful souls. Our last days at Kiwanis with him made us all realize how much he was loved and how well he was cared for by all the staff there.

Wayne‘s passing signifies that we have lost a huge part of our family.  He was always next door. We were spoiled with his presence and kindness. We know he’s in very special company in Heaven and no longer in pain.

Wayne is lovingly remembered by his brother Ivan (Marjorie) of Springfield, NB; nephews: Vance Neill (Denise) of Hatfield Point, NB and Mike Neill (Jody) of Springfield, NB; nieces: Naomi Martin (Brent) of Carsonville, NB and Ginny Sherwood (Mike) of Midland, NB. He also leaves behind great nieces and nephews: Sarah, Connor, Peyton, Sami, Jayme, Cohan, Owen, Hayden, Emma, Cora, Jillian, Ryan, Megan, Jackson, Logan, Gabe; and great-great nephew Cade.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), Norton, NB, where the visitation will be Monday, July 28, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Hatfield Point Baptist Church, followed be the interment at the Bayview Cemetery. In honour of Wayne’s memory, donations may be made to the Bayview Cemetery, Kiwanis Nursing Home or a charity of the donor’s choice.
