Obituary of Lois Wooden
It is with broken hearts that the family of Lois Bernetta Wooden announce her passing which occurred on June 15, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB on August 24, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Young) Dennison.
Lois was a devoted wife to Albert, her husband of 72 years, and mother to her 6 children.
She took pride in everything she did, whether it was her appearance, her meals, her home, directing choirs, singing duets with Albert, or carrying out various roles in the church. She was always well prepared for whatever roles she took on.
She was a loving mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, spreading her love to her family without partiality.
She loved music, whether singing with her family and church family, or listening to children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren playing instruments and singing. Over the years she was a choir member and choir director at the Edith Avenue United Baptist, Saint John, and the Norton United Baptist Churches.
With Albert, the love of her life, she took great enjoyment in watching the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks feeding outside the kitchen window and playing around in the gardens. Together they loved to play games and assemble puzzles at home and with family and friends.
For many years until the Covid pandemic, she and Albert were avid bowlers with a Thursday seniors’ bowling group at the Sussex Corner Bowling alley. They found pleasure together in simple things, whether canoeing, day hiking on trails, camping with family in younger years, and travelling around Atlantic Canada and across Canada visiting family as they travelled. Their most memorable trip together was to Scotland in 1992 to visit Glenn, Darlene and their children while he studied there for his PhD.
She opened her heart and home to her various nieces and nephews who looked to her more as a mother than an aunt after the loss of their own parents.
Having accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, she lived a life of service to Him in her marriage, with her children, and her church family. Her home, extended family and neighbours were her mission field. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope and love.
Lois is survived by her sons: Glenn Wooden (Darlene) of Canaan, NS, Timothy Wooden of Moosomin, SK, Norman Wooden (Angela) of Norton, NB; daughters: Andrea Hall (Wesley) of Norton, NB, Beth Ganong (Jamie) of Norton, NB; daughter-in-law Janice Wooden of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren: Nicole Wooden, Jonathan Wooden (Geneieve Jobin), Felicia Mercer (Isaac), Ryan Wooden (Tracey), Theresa Wooden (Mike Hardin), Marion Nodwell, Margaret Mercer (Kalan), Matthew Hall (Sara), Alyson Jay (Nicholas), Philip Hall (Carolina), Samuel Ganong (Josie Lockhart), Jessica McFarlane (Scott), Adam Ganong (Jenna Knorr), Daniel Ganong (Meghan), Autumn Wooden (Jake Cunningham), Karmen Wooden; 32 great-grandchildren; brother Malcolm Dennison of Saint John, NB and sister Virginia Hodgins (Joseph) of Minesing, ON, and several nieces and nephews.
