Obituary of George Chown
It is with great sadness that the family of George Robert Chown announce his passing which occurred on Monday, May 5, 2025 at the Sussex Health Centre, Sussex, NB. Born in Prescott Hill, NB, on April 29, 1946, he was the son of the late William and Alice (Folkins) Chown.
George is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Sherrill (Keirstead) Chown of Gibbon Mountain, NB; children: Robin Chown of Toronto, ON, Noel Chown (Carlene Doyle) of Gibbon Mountain, NB and Lawana Adepoju (Akinade) of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren: Gabriel, Chloe, Michael, Lily and Elijah; and many extended family.
George was a lifelong farmer and woodsman with an exceptional work ethic and love of his community. He lived life to the fullest with many friends from all walks of life. He was a dedicated member and deacon of the Collina United Baptist church and had a strong dedication to the Lord. Even through his health battles, he continued to cherish life and lived it to the fullest every day. He could be seen working, laughing, praying, telling stories or a joke right up to his final days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Thursday, May 8, from 4 to 7pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 11:00am from Sherwood’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Kierstead Mountain Cemetery.
